Main Gate of the Kyoto National Museum

Possessing a large collection of Buddhist art, medieval drawings, and palaeography, the building housing the Kyoto National Museum at Higashiyama Shichijo itself is a cultural asset. The museum, which opened in 1897, was designed by Tokuma Katayma. The main building (Special Exhibition Hall) and the Main Gate designed by Katayama are preserved in their original form and evoke the dignity of the Meiji imperial government.
