Boozeries Near Shichijo Police Station
Just around the corner from the ultra-modern Kyoto Train Station, one can find some old Showa-style taverns nestled below Shichijo Street. Much less sophisticated than the midtown entertainment district around Shijo and Sanjo, this side of town is reminiscent of the hungry but humble mid Showa era of 60s. The area seems to have been deserted by city planners with the nearby department store closing in 2007. However, there are plans for a major electronics retail chain store going in 2010 and this may change the area completely.
