 Sakaimachi Street

A casual street scene taken around Sakaimachi Takeyamachi, south of the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park. The name "Sakai-machi" means “border town” or street, and it is said that the area was so named because it once stood as a border area between the town and the surrounding grassy fields in the late sixteenth century after the destruction during the Onin civil war.
