Narrow Path of Gosho
On the long and wide gravel "avenues" of Kyoto Gyoen, one can find narrow trails where the gravel has been tidily removed. These trails are not created by the maintainers of the park but rather come into existence all on their own. Bicyclists follow the paths of their predecessors, and the gravel on the paths have been gradually swept away creating one-track rutted roads. People sometimes call these paths "Gosho no Hosomichi" (Narrow Path of the Kyoto Imperial Palace) copying the title of the famous Edo-period haiku poet's book.
