 Kyogoku Kaneyo

Kyogoku Kaneyo is an old-fashioned eel restaurant, which has been in business since the 1910s. Standing rather oddly at a corner of Rokkaku Street between Kawaramachi and Shinkyogoku, where many fashionable shops and modern movie theaters are located, the two-storied wooden house with its old-fashioned calligraphic sign reading "No.1 Eel in Japan" attracts one's attention.

Even more attention-grabbing, though, is the smell of the smoke of grilled eels emanating right out of the kitchen in front. Its kinshi don, grilled eel with rice "fully" covered in a Japanese omelet, is the specialty of this shop and is really superb.
