 Murakamiju Honten

Slipping into a back street off of Kyoto's busiest entertainment and shopping district in Shijo Kawaramachi, one can find this famous tsukemono Japanese pickles shop.

The symbol of a cross surrounded by a circle is known as the family crest of the old feudal Shimazu clan, but I suppose in this case it represents the Chinese character meaning number 10, which sounds in Japanese "ju," which is reminiscent of the shop’s name. The shop was founded in 1832 and is especially popular for its additive-free senmaizuke pickled turnips.
