Keigetsudo Confectionery Shop
Although this shop does not have noren, the traditional wooden sign with the shop name written in calligraphy serves a similar purpose. In fact, Keigetsudo on Teramachi Street is said to be the oldest western-style cake shop in Kyoto.
Before the capital was moved to Tokyo, in 1869, Keigetsudo had been a manufacturer of crowns for the imperial family, but it transformed itself into a cake shop during the early years of westernization. Old-fashioned roll cakes and fresh cream cakes are lined up deliciously in the shop window.
