Daisen-in is a sub-temple of Daitokuji, the head temple of the Daitokuji School of the Rinzai Zen sect. Of the 22 sub-temples connected to Daitokuji, Daisen-in is especially notable for sightseeing. This includes the Main Hall, which is a registered National Treasure and the Karesansui Gardens.
Surrounding the Main Hall, Daisen-in's Karesansui Rock Gardens depict the natural state of water from that of a mountain stream at one end to the gentle swell of the ocean at the other. This photo, which was taken in early summer, shows the beautiful red color of one of Daisen-in Garden’s maple trees.
