 Chishaku-in Gate

At the eastern end of Shichijo Street where it crosses Higashioji Street stands the Chishaku-in temple gate. A Shingon-sect temple, constructed here in 1601, it is famous for its garden which was created to evoke the landscape surrounding Mount Lushan in China. The temple is also famous for its splendid screen paintings which were created by Hasegawa Tohaku and his son, Kyuzo and have been preserved here since the time of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
