Ginkakuji Gate at Dusk
The Kannon Hall or Ginkaku, the main structure of Ginkaku-ji is undergoing extensive restoration, which is scheduled to continue through early 2010. However, despite the restoration work, you can still enjoy strolling through the beautiful gardens. Ginkakuji was originally built by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa as a retirement villa for himself in late fifteenth century. It was then transformed into a Zen temple after his death. The temple's official name is Jishoji.
