Enkoji Temple Jugyu-no-niwa
The moss covered garden of Enkoji Temple is called Jugyu-no-niwa or "ten bulls garden." It is said to represent the story of the Ten Bulls, a series of pictures, in the tradition of Zen Buddhism, that illustrate 10 stages towards enlightenment.
Following a narrow path through the garden, one is supposed to be able to see each of the 10 scenes in rocks, trees, and shrubbery. The scenes that the garden's scarlet and golden leaves create against the dark green moss on the ground in autumn are truly picturesque.
