 Kozanji Kaisando

Known for possessing the National Treasure Chōjū-giga scrolls (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans), which is considered to be the first manga, Kozanji Temple is nestled in the mountain village of Toganoo. Standing obscurely in the Kitayama-sugi pine grove, the Shingon temple looks ideal for ascetic training—as it once was.

This small wooden hall is Kaisando or Founders Hall, which houses a wooden statue created during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333) of Priest Myoe, the virtual founder of the temple.
