 Approach to Nakamon Gate (Eikando)

Since the days of the Kokin Wakashu poetry anthology of the early tenth century, Eikando Temple has been associated with the autumn leaves. In fact, the temple's garden is one of the finest autumn foliage viewing spots in Kyoto—at its height in late November or early December.

When you pass through the Main Gate and walk toward the Nakamon Central Gate, you will be greeted by dazzling red and yellow leaves on either side of the approach, which look even sharper against the temple's snow-white plastered walls.
