Autumn in Takao
An hour drive north-west from Kyoto’s city center, the village of Takao nestles in the Mount Atago hillside. Mount Atago has been an object of worship from ancient times, and some Buddhist temples were also set up in the middle of this mystical mountain. The valley located along the clear Kiyotaki River greets the autumn foliage a few weeks earlier than the city and attracts many tourists. Some roadside restaurants and vendors offer maple-leaf tempura during the season.
